FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College split a non-conference softball doubleheader at home with Southern Virginia University, dropping the opener 1-0 and winning the nightcap 13-8 at Vickie Van Kleeck Softball Complex.

GAME 1
Jaci Shumway's sacrifice fly to right field in the third inning of the opener gave Southern Virginia the only run of the game. A pitcher's dual, Arianna Prymak hurled a complete seven-inning five-hitter to get the win.
Lyndsey Sears pitched all seven innings for Ferrum and took the loss.
GAME 2
Ferrum scored two runs in the first on
Macie Bell and
Erin Nelson RBI singles to right field. The Panthers added four runs in the second, including RBI singles by Brianna Weaver and
Macey Moore, a sac fly by Sears and a Bell RBI fielder's choice to make it a 6-0 game after two full innings.
Southern Virginia scored five runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead. Ferrum exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, getting two runs each on Weaver and Moore RBI singles and a Sears RBI double. The Panthers added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a fielding error.
Weaver went 3-5 with two runs and three RBI, while Sears went 2-4 with a double, 1 run and three RBI.
Wynema Thomas earned the win in the circle after pitching a third of an inning. Sears came on to pitch the final two innings, striking out four batters.
