FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped two games at home with Bridgewater College in their Old Dominion Athletic Conference season opener. Falling 11-0 in the opener and 8-3 the second. GAME 1
Bridgewater drove in two runs in the first inning for an early 2-0 lead. Hannah Mahan added a two-run homerun to left center in the fifth. Morgan Lucas then hit a three-run homerun just three batters later. Brantley Swift pitched a two-hit shutout to get the win, in the five inning game, Sarah Wimer went 4-4 and RBI for the Eagles.
GAME 2
The Eagles struck first in game two on Wimer's RBI single.
Lyndsey Sears belted a two-run shot to left field to put Ferrum ahead in the second inning. Jazmyne Smith's grand slam in the fifth put Bridgewater up 7-2 in the top of the fifth, she also hit a solo homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-2. Sears drove in her third RBI of the day on a double to right center in the bottom of the seventh. Mackenzie Cauthorn earned the complete game win, striking out seven and allowing only three runs.
