Baseball Picks up ODAC Road Finale Win

DANVILLE, Virginia -- Ferrum College's baseball team split the season series in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play against Averett university with a 8-6 victory at Owen-Fulton Field this afternoon.

THE BASICS
Elijah Byrd scored the first run of the game for Ferrum after an Averett error, to lead 1-0 in the top of the first. In the third inning, Enrique Diaz hit a sacrifice flyball to the shortstop in shallow right center to drive in Clayton Michael. Russell Golembe smacked a solo homerun in the fourth to push Ferrum's lead to 3-0 Averett got two runs in the fourth on two singles, to make it a 3-2 game.

Bryce Thacker drove in Byrd in the fifth to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead. Grayson Chitwood doubled to right, scoring Thacker in the seventh and came around to score on an error in the eighth.  With two runners on and two outs, Byrd hit a double to right field, driving in the eventual two game winning runs for Ferrum. 

Averett scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to make it a two run game. Scoring one on a wild pitch and the other two on a double to left and a single to right center.
