Baseball Gets Road Win Against Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Virginia -- The Ferrum College baseball team scored twice in the ninth inning for a 6-5 win against Mary Baldwin in non-conference play this afternoon at John Moxie Stadium.

THE BASICS
Ferrum struck first, to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Enrique Diaz hit a RBI groundout to plate Justin Brady. Mary Baldwin took the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the second with a sac fly and an RBI single. 

The Squirrels extended their lead to 3-1, after an error allowed a run to score in the bottom of the sixth. Brady's sacrifice flyball in the top of the seventh cut the lead to 3-2. Bryce Thacker drove in a run with a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, to tie it 3-3. Mary Baldwin retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh, 4-3. Ozzie Torres drove home Jaden Johnson with an RBI single, tying the game up again.

Diaz led-off the top of the ninth with a solo-homerun, his first career homerun, to retake the lead for Ferrum 5-4. Bailey Hodges added an RBI single to give the Panthers a two run lead, 6-4. Mary Baldwin got one in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will wrap Old Dominion Athletic Conference play this weekend on Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30 against Shenandoah University. Senior's will be honored before the first game on Saturday.
