Ferrum Men Hit Century Mark Over Centurions

FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's men's basketball team won its season-opener tonight at home over Carolina Christian College, winning 116-58 in non-conference action at Swartz Gym.

Ferrum (1-0)
Carolina Christian (0-5)

THE BASICS
Ferrum jumped out a 15-0 lead less than three minutes into the game and never looked back. Zavier Measmer's layup at the 12:08 mark made it a 28-0 game.

Elijah Skinner got Carolina Christian on the scoreboard when he was fouled and knocked down a pair of free throws at 11:24. Ferrum would outscore the Centurions 27-15 from there to take a 57-17 lead at the break.

The second half was a run-and-gun affair as both teams caught fire and gave the scoreboard a workout. Tucker Harvey's driving layup with 23 seconds left in the game lifted Ferrum to it's highest single game scoring output in 20 years. The Panthers scored 118 points against Roanoke Bible during the 2004-05 season. Ferrum's single game scoring record is 119 points, set against Methodist College during the 1991-92 season.
