Walk-Off Single Lifts Ferrum to Non-Conference Win

FERRUM, Virginia -- Mason Moffett's walk-off RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Ferrum College the non-conference win this afternoon over Hamilton College at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Russell Golembe single up the middle scored Tyler Mason for the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Russell would score two batters later on Clayton Michael's RBI groundout to second base, extending the lead to 2-0. Mason Moffet hit an RBI double to left center, driving in the third run of the inning. The Panthers would score one run a piece in the second and fourth inning, coming from sacrifice fly by Golembe and Moffett, to lead 5-0 after four innings. 

In the top of the fifth Hamilton got a run on a sacrifice fly and an RBI double to left in the sixth, cutting the lead to 5-2. In the top of the ninth, the Continental's got two batters on base and then Michael Tallarida tied the game with a three-run homerun.

In the bottom half of the ninth Michael led off the inning with a single through the left side and was able to steal second base while the defense wasn't paying attention. Moffett stepped up to the plate a delivered a base hit through the left side that would bring home Michael.
