STAUNTON, Virginia -- Ferrum College's softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Mary Baldwin University this afternoon on the road, taking the opener 9-7 and dropping the nightcap 8-3 at MBU Softball Field.

GAME ONE
Leanna Bartrug and
Macey Moore had RBI singles in the first inning to put Ferrum out in front early, but Mary Baldwin scored a run in the bottom half of the frame. The Fighting Squirrels struck for four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-2 lead after two full innings.
Macie Bell belted a solo homer for Ferrum in the top of the third to trim the lead to 5-3, only to se MBU score two in the bottom of the inning and extend the lead to 7-3. Ferrum scored a run in the fifth on Moore's sac fly to left field, then picked up two in the sixth on a Braanna Michaels RBI single to get the lead down to 7-6.
Wynema Thomas had an RBI single in the seventh that drove in a run, and Kayce Kincaid's RBI single drove in the game-tying and game-winning runs.

GAME TWO
The Squirrels jumped out in front early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning and two in the second for a 7-0 lead that Ferrum could not answer. Bartrug and
Georgia Carter each had solo homers for the Panthers in the third inning. MBU scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, then Carter homered again in the fifth inning for the final count.
