Ferrum Drops Two in Baseball to EMU

FERRUM, Virginia – Ferrum College dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball games this afternoon at home to Eastern Mennonite University, falling 12-8 in the opener and 17-6 in the nightcap at Panther Field.

GAME ONE
Eastern Mennonite scored a run each in the second and third innings to grab the early lead. Ferrum scored a run in the bottom of the third inning on Russell Golembe's solo homer to left field to trim the lead to 2-1. EMU picked up three runs in the fourth inning, two on Alex Gulisano's RBI single up the middle. Clayton Michael's RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth made it a 5-2 game.
 
The Panthers picked up four in the bottom of the sixth to surge in front, 6-5. Golembe tripled to right field with the bases loaded to drive in three runs, then Michael had a sac fly to right to add a run. Both teams scored a run in the seventh inning and Ferrum led 7-6. The Royals erupted for four in the eighth inning to go back in front 10-7. Noah Basham singled in the bottom of the eighth to drive in a run for the Panthers and trim the lead to 10-8. EMU scored two in the top of the ninth, then held on to take game one.

GAME TWO
EMU scored a run in the first inning of the second game on a sac fly, then added a run in the third, seven in the fourth and five in the sixth. Ferrum picked up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, including two on Golembe's RBI double down the right field line, and a one on Tyler Mason's RBI single down the right field line.
 
Ferrum picked up two runs in the sixth inning, one on a dropped third strike and the other on a wild pitch, to make it a 14-5 game. Each team scored a run in the eighth inning and the score was 15-6 Royals. EMU added a pair of runs in the ninth inning to close out scoring.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will be back on the diamond Tuesday, March 26, at Averett University. The ODAC game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start in Danville, Virginia.
