Softball Sweeps at Sweet Briar, Panthers Win 10-0 and 3-2

SWEET BRIAR, Virginia – Ferrum College swept Sweet Briar College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader this afternoon on the road, taking the opener 10-0 then hanging on for a 3-2 win in the nightcap at SBC Field.

GAME ONE
Ferrum scored first when Carsen Hogston walked to open the second inning, stole second and scored on Riley Young's RBI double to center field. The Panthers would go onto score five runs that inning, including two on Brianna Michaels' RBI single to center and two on Emily Hopper's RBI single to left.
 
Ferrum scored two more in the fourth inning, one on an error and one on Hopper's RBI groundout to second base. The Panthers added three runs in the top of the seventh on an error, a Wynema Thomas RBI single to center field and a Breanna Weaver single through the left side. Thomas pitched a complete seven-inning shutout for the Panthers, allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters.

GAME TWO
Michaels singled to center in the top of the third inning to drive in a pair of runs in the nightcap. Sweet Briar responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to knot the game at 2-2 after three full innings. The Panthers scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in the fifth inning when Michaels ripped a single through the left side, allowing Weaver to score from second base.
