FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College picked up a win in game two with visiting Averett University to split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader this afternoon at Vickie Van Kleeck Field. The Panthers dropped the opener 6-1, but salvaged the split by taking the nightcap 7-2.

GAME ONE
Emily Hopper scored on a throwing error in the third inning of the opener to give Ferrum a 1-0 lead, which the Panthers held through five full innings. Averett picked up four runs in the sixth inning, then added two in the seventh for the win.

GAME TWO
The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning on Hopper's RBI single to left field,
Macey Moore's saf fly to left and
Riley Young's RBI single down the right field line. Averett picked up two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Ferrum scored a run in the bottom half of the frame on
Breanna Weaver's RBI double to left-center to make it a 4-2 game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Moore doubled down the left field line to drive in a run and stretch the lead to 5-2, then Young had a two-run blast to left-center for the final score. Starter
Emily Walker scattered six hits over a full seven-inning game with four strikeouts to get her first win.
