Hot Bats and Great Pitching Power Ferrum to ODAC Win Over Roanoke

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College baseball team earned their third straight win, with a 13-3 victory over Roanoke College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play tonight at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Roanoke struck first with a two-run homerun to left field in the second inning for an early 2-0 lead. Shawn Baxter singled to left field, driving in Ferrum's first run in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Kyle Markworitz came around to score on a fielder's choice that left the bases loaded, tying the game 2-2. Gus Chaffin's two-run double to left field and Russell Golembe's single up the middle gave the Panthers a 6-2 lead. The Maroons scored their final run the sixth on a double to right field.

Ferrum would score two more runs in the seventh, with a Markowitz double to left center and he came around to score two batters later. Bryce Thacker's RBI single to left field extended the Panther lead to 10-3 in the eighth. Noah Basham drew a pinch-hit walk with the bases loaded to bring in a run and two more runs would score on wild pitches, later in the inning.
