Brittle Earns 200th Career Win with Golembe's Walk-Off Single Over Averett

FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College baseball team picked up two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) against Averett University today at Panther Field. The first game was a completion of the suspended game earlier in the year at Averett in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Panthers won 12-2. In the second game, Russell Golembe's walk-off single in the ninth gave Coach Ryan Brittle his 200th career win at Ferrum, winning 12-11.

THE BASICS
 Averett scored a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Ferrum scored three runs when Slade Keyser singled up the middle to drive in a run. Shawn Baxter's hit an RBI single to the third baseman and Keyser came around to score later in the inning on a passed ball. The Cougars tied it a 3-3 in the fifth, one on an RBI single, the other on an error. Mason Moffett scored on a passed ball to put the Panthers up 4-3 after the fifth inning. 

Averett tied things up again in the sixth, with a sac flyball to center field. Bryce Thacker belted a solo homerun to retake the lead in the sixth inning for Ferrum. The Cougars plated one more in the seventh on a fielder's choice, tying it 5-5. Keyser put Ferrum ahead 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single to right center field. Averett scored five runs in the eighth inning to go ahead 10-7. 

Grady White had a pinch hit single to center field, driving in two runs in the bottom half of the eighth and got Ferrum within a run, 10-9. Keyser again hit a single up the middle, driving in two more runs and giving the Panthers a 11-10 lead. Averett tied it in the ninth with a sac fly to right field, tying the game again, 11-11.

In the bottom of the ninth, Thacker led of the inning with a single to left field, stole second during the next at bat. Russell Golembe singled to center field to drive in the game-winning run.

Coach Brittle's team will be back in action this Saturday, April 27 on the road against Shenandoah University. The game is set for 1 p.m. first pitch in Winchester, Virginia.
