Deaton Named All-State in Football by VaSID

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Virginia Sports Information Director (VaSID) Association has named its 2023 College Division Football All-State Team and Ferrum College's Seth Deaton was included as a second team selection as a placekicker.

Deaton's All-State honor caps a stellar 2023 season in which he also earned third team All-Region by d3football.com as a placekicker. His junior season accolades also include a pair of All-Conference nods by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Deaton made the 2023 All-ODAC second team as a placekicker, and the All-ODAC second team as a punter.

Deaton handled all of the Panthers' kicking duties last season. He was a perfect 16 of 16 in PAT attempts, and converted 10 of 12 field goal attempts. His longest field goal last season came on November 11 against ODAC rival Averett University, when he split the uprights from 44 yards out.

Deaton broke Ferrum's school record for career field goals made last season, and now has 24 to his career stat line headed into the 2024 season. He tied for first made field goals in the ODAC last season, and his 83.3% FG made percentage tied him for sixth place among NCAA Division III kickers in 2023.

Ferrum opens the 2024 season under first-year Head Coach Kevin Sherman at home Saturday, September 7, when the Panthers will face University of Mount Union. The Raider football program dates back to 1893 and has won 13 NCAA Division III football titles, most recently in 2017. Mount Union was national runner-up in 2022.
