Panthers Drop ODAC Volleyball Opener

FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball opener at home, falling 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 tonight at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
Ferrum led 7-4 early in the opening set, including a kill each by Jaycee Chaffin and Kenzee Chaffin. Roanoke used a 12-4 run to grab a 16-11 lead on Peyton Kirchner. Haleigh Propst's kill stopped the run and made in a 16-12 game, then a Roanoke attack error cut the lead to 16-13. The Maroons closed the set with a 9-5 run to grab the one set to love lead.

Jaycee Chaffin had a pair of kills and Propst had one kill to help Ferrum take a 7-3 lead in the second set. Roanoke used a 7-2 rally to claim a 10-9 lead, and the two teams played evenly from there. Kenzee Chaffin's kill a few minutes later cut Roanoke's lead to 21-20, but the Maroons held from there to take the 2-0 set lead.

In the third set, it was Roanoke who took the early 7-4 lead, then expended it to 19-11 a few minutes later. Propst had a kill to end the Roanoke run, Sami Kircher had a service ace, Bailey Terry had a kill and Roanoke had a pair of attach errors to get the lead down to 19-16. Roanoke played well enough to hang on from there for the sweep.
