Panthers Drop Two at Maroon Classic

SALEM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped a pair of non-conference matches this afternoon in opening day action at the Maroon Classic at Roanoke College. The Panthers fell to Methodist University 25-10, 25-10, 25-17 in the first match, then dropped a heartbreaker to Salem College by a score of 25-27, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 15-6 at the Cregger Center.

FERRUM-METHODIST
The Panthers had a slow start, dropping the opening two sets by identical 25-10 scores, then dropped the final set 15-17. Chloe Pfuntner had seven kills for Ferrum, while Kenzee Chaffin had seven assists and Harleigh Propst had five assists.

FERRUM-PEACE
Ferrum grabbed a two sets to none lead against Salem, only to see the Spirits come back to take the next two sets and force a winner-take-all fifth set. The score was tied at 2-2 in the fifth and deciding set when Salem went on a 12-2 run then hung on for the win. Jaycee Chaffin had 15 kills and 22 assists for the Panthers, Kenzee Chaffin had 14 kills and 17 digs, Savanna Walker had 19 digs, and Propst had 13 kills and 22 assists.

UP NEXT
Coach Shelbylynn Adair's team will regroup and head back to Salem Saturday morning, September 7, for two more non-conference matches to close out the Maroon Classic. The Panthers face Greensboro College at noon, then take on host Roanoke at 4:00 p.m.
