HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia -- Ferrum College lost to #8 Hampden-Sydney College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball action this afternoon, falling 78-67 this afternoon at Douglas Fleet Gymnasium.

THE BASICS
Ferrum came out hot, opening an 8-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the game on a three-pointer each by
Zavier Measmer and
Sterling Charles and a layup by
Tae Allen. Shane Farnald got the defending NCAA Division III national runner-up Tigers on the scoreboard with a layup at 17:17 to make it 8-2.
Measmer connected on another trey at 14:33 and another at 12:54 to push Ferrum's lead to 14-8. A 9-0 run over the next two and a half minutes put the Tigers on top 17-14, a lead they would never relinquish for the remainder of the half. Hampden-Sydney closed out the first 20 minutes of play on top 35-26.
Nick Shryock dropped a three-pointer for the Tigers to open the second half, then Fernald added a jumper at 18:37 and the lead expanded to 40-26. Ferrum clawed its way back, with Abel-Rivera getting fouled and converting a pair of free throws at 14:46 to get the lead down to six points at 45-39.
An 8-10 run by Hampden-Sydney over the next six minutes made it a 63-49 game. Charles Tart's layup off a Marcus Willis, Jr. steal got the lead back down to single digits, 74-65, with exactly one minute left in regulation, but the Tigers would hold on for the win.
