Hutton, Deaton Named All-State in Football

FERRUM, Virginia – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) organization has announced the Football All-State Team and Ferrum College had two players named to the College Division for the 2024 season. Punter William Hutton has been named first team, while placekicker Seth Deaton earned second team honors.
 
A freshman from Glade Spring, Virginia, Hutton punted 53 times this season for 2185 yards, averaging 41.2 yards per punt. Nine of his punts sailed for 50 or more yards and he dropped 21 punts inside the 20 yard line. Hutton was named to the D3football.com All-Region second team for his efforts this season, was named Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Special Teams Player of the Week on November 17, and made the All-ODAC first team.
 
A senior from Newport News, Virginia, this is Deaton's second consecutive All-State honor. He was 10-14 this season in field goals, including a new school record 48-yarder November 2 against Guilford. Deaton was also 22-25 in PATs and finished second in scoring for Ferrum this season with 52 points. Deaton earned second team All-ODAC trhis season after claiming a pair of second team honors in 2023 as a placekicker and punter.
 
Ferrum finished the season at 5-5 overall last fall, including a 3-4 ODAC mark. Ferrum announced in Spring 2024 a divisional shift to the NCAA Division II ranks, starting in Fall 2025. The College will depart the ODAC and begin competition in all sports with Conference Carolinas.

VaSID All-State teams are voted upon by Sports Information Directors (SIDs) from schools across the Commonwealth of Virginia,. Voting includes SIDs from NCAA Division I, II and III institutions, as well as NAIA schools and community colleges.
