FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's baseball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader with Alfred State College this afternoon at home, falling 12-3 in the opener and 18-6 in the nightcap at Panther Field.

GAME ONE
Alfred State scored a pair of runs in the first inning of the opener, then Ferrum scored three in the bottom of the frame, including two off
Kyle Markowitz's homer to left field to grab a 3-2 lead.
The Pioneers added a run in the second, then exploded for five runs in the fifth to take a 9-3 lead. ASC's Zach Young homered to left in the sixth inning, then his team added a run on a sac fly to take an 11-3 lead after six full frames. Alfred State tacked on a run in the seventh for the final 12-3 count.

In the nightcap, ASC scored four in the first inning. Te Panthers picked up three runs in the bottom half of the frame on RBI singles by
Shawn Baxter and
Jorge Olivo and an RBI double by
Gregory Melo. The Pioneers picked up three runs in the second, but Ferrum answered with two in the bottom of the inning, both off
Carlos Castillo's RBI single up the middle. Alfred State then exploded for five runs each in the third and fifth innings to blow the game open.
