FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College took both ends of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball doubleheader with visiting Shenandoah University today at Panther Field, taking the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 11-9.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the game, Ferrum honored 11 graduating players with a Senior Day ceremony. Players honored were

GAME 1
Shenandoah scored first, picking up a run in the first inning for the early lead. Ferrum picked up two in the sixth, then got a run each in the seventh and eighth innings to extend the lead to 4-1. Jaime Padilla solo homered to right field for the Hornets to account for the final score. Started
Jai Penn evened his record to 2-2 with the win, scattering three hits over seven innings and striking out nine batters. Sheppard earned the same, allowing one hit over the final two innings and striking out one. Baxter closed the game with a pair of base hits.
GAME 2
Seth Shannon's RBI single to right field opened a 1-0 Ferrum lead in the bottom of the first inning. Shenandoah scored two runs in the third inning and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead after five full innings. The Panthers then exploded with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including two on
Eli Elliott's RBI single to left field, to go out in front 9-3.
Haden Madagan's RBI double to right-center in the top of the seventh inning pushed two runs across the plate for SU and cut the lead to 9-5, but Baxter and Shannon had sac flies in the bottom half of the frame to push the lead to 11-5. The Hornets rallied for three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth, but Ferrum held on to get the sweep.
Wyatt Chaffin (1-0) pitched two innings of relief to earn his first win, while Markowitz was 3-5 at the plate with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Eric Owens' team will be back in action Wednesday, April 16, at home against Roanoke College. The ODAC game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start at Panther Field.
