Castillo Homers Three Times in Road Loss

JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee -- Fefrrum College dropped the first contest of a three-game weekend series with Covenant College Friday, April 18, falling 13-11 in non-conference action at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

HOME RUN RECORD
Senior Carlos Castillo had three home runs in the loss ... one in the second inning, one in the fourth and one in the eighth. Castillo's effort ties a school record for home runs in a single game, set by Patrick Muncher, who had three homers against University of Lynchburg on April 26, 1998.

RECORDS
Covenant (15-19)
Ferrum (17-18)

THE BASICS
Covenant scored two in the first inning, but Ferrum answered with four runs in the bottom half of the frame. Kyle Markowitz, Shawn Baxter and Tyler Mason each had an RBI single and JJ Tyree had an RBI triple. Castillo then bashed his first home, a screaming shot to left-center, in the bottom of the second inning for a 5-2 lead.

The Scots picked up two runs in the third, both on RBI doubles, to trim the score to 5-4. Castillo had a three-run homer to left-center in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 8-4. Covenant picked up a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and Ferrum matched that with a pair in the sixth to make it a 10-6 game after six full innings. Zeke Gilbert had a two-run homer for Covenant in the seventh inning to trim the score to 10-8.

The Scots exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth inning to go out in front 13-10, then Castillo homered to right field in the bottom of the frame for the final count. Both Castillo and Tyree closed the game with three base hits for the Panthers.
