LYNCHBURG, VA
– The Ferrum College Track & Field teams opened the new year with a strong showing across multiple events at the Burg Open hosted by Liberty University. Leading the way was last year's nationally ranked runner Sophomore
Jahmal Jones who finished first and set a meet record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.79 seconds. Jones also took home first in the 200 meter dash.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Jahmal Jones (SO) won the 60-meter dash (6.79) and 200-meter dash (21.76), earning two first-place finishes.
- Kalaib Gebrehaimanot (FR) advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and placed 7th overall (8.73).
- Deontae Lawson (SR) recorded a 3rd-place finish in the long jump (20'01/2") and 3rd place in the triple jump (36.6")
- Jaiden Childress (JR) placed 7th in the high jump, clearing 6' 3¾".
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Camille Vaughn (FR) placed 4th in the 60-meter dash finals (8.04) and earned a 3rd-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.43).
- Nadiyah Abdussalaam (SO) advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 10.19, and competed in multiple events.
- Zenallah Hatcher-Simmons (FR) earned a 2nd-place finish in the shot put (40' 3¾") and competed in the weight throw.
- Zyreonia Patterson (FR) finished 5th in the women's long jump(16'5").
- Carly Carwile (FR) placed 6th in the women's 3000-meter run (12:31.42).
- Multiple freshmen competed in sprint events, highlighting depth and development across the roster.
- Sarah Hudgins and Mi'Yah Young opened the year with solid performances in the mile run.
