Baseball Drops Two at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Ferrum College dropped both ends of a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader today at Erskine College, losing 3-1 in the opener then falling 9-5 in the nightcap this afternoon at Grier Field.

GAME 1
Erskine picked up a run in the second inning off Ricky Dober's solo homer to left field. The Flying Fleet added two runs in the third to extend the lead to 3-0. Hunter Carlson broke up the shutout when he scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning when Smith Dickinson reached on an Erskine fielding error.

GAME 2
Ferrum struck first, picking up three runs in the top of the first inning. Niko Papathanasiou's RBI single to center scored CJ Kemmerer, then Carlson's RBI triple to left allowed Papathanasiou and Tyler Mason to cross the plate for the 3-0 lead. Erskine answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on an error and a sac fly. Papathanasiou had an RBI single in the third inning to extend Ferrum's lead to 4-1. Erskine would recover and score three runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to go in front 6-4. Ferrum scored a run in the seventh inning off a Carlson RBI single up the middle to trim the lead to 6-5, but the Flying Fleet added three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the final count.

UP NEXT
Coach Eric Owens' team will be back in action Friday and Saturday, February 20-21, at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. The three-game Conference Carolinas series will begin Friday with a single nine-inning game at 1:00 p.m. The two teams will then play a doubleheader Saturday, starting at 11:00 a.m.
