FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's tennis team was defeated by Chowan University, 5-2, in a Conference Carolinas match Wednesday, March 18, at the Burrows Tennis Courts.

THE BASICS
Chowan picked up four wins in the singles matches to clinch the victory. The Panthers' two wins came from
Bianca Solorzano and
Stephanie Porras. Solorzano cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Feidi AbreuRodriguez at No. 1 singles, while Porras picked looked solid in winning her first set 6-1 at No. 2 singles before her opponent Felicitas Grillo count not continue and retired at the start of the second set.
The Hawks, however, swept the rest of the singles competition. Janna Lerma defeated
Hannah Huffman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and Victoria Videla blanked
Olivia Eisenman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Diva Datta also won 6-0, 6-0 against
Chloe Smith at No. 5, and Isabella Turner claimed a default victory at No. 6.
In doubles play, Ferrum earned its first point with a 6-4 victory at No. 1 from Solorzano and Porras over Marcia Aragon and Lerma. However, Chowan responded with a 6-1 win at No. 2 from AbreuRodriguez and Videla over Huffman and Eisenman, and completed the doubles sweep with a default win at No. 3.
