FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped the second game of its Conference Carolinas weekend series to University of Mount Olive, falling 12-4 Saturday morning at Panther Field. Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, game two was delayed due to rain and then eventually called.

THE BASICS
Mount Olive used an early offensive surge and a decisive seventh inning to pull away from Ferrum in game two of the series. The Trojans struck first in the opening inning, then added two more in the second on a two-run home run from Mac James to build a 3-0 advantage. Ferrum answered in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of an error to plate its first run after a
Garrett Pancione double.
Mount Olive broke the game open in the third, scoring three runs highlighted by a two-run homer from Garrett Moffett to extend the lead to 6-1. The Trojans added another run in the fourth on a solo home run by Lane McLean, pushing the margin to 7-1. Ferrum showed life in the fifth inning when
Niko Papathanasiou launched a two-run home run to right field, trimming the deficit to 7-3.
After a quiet sixth, Mount Olive delivered the knockout blow in the seventh inning, erupting for five runs. Rowan Watt drove in a run with a single, Garrett Moffett added a sacrifice fly, and Mac James capped the inning with a two-run homer to stretch the lead to 12-3. On the mound,
Hunter Carlson absorbed the loss after allowing six runs over three innings.
Connor Courtney provided four innings of relief. Mount Olive's Carson Gipson earned the win, tossing seven innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits.
