FERRUM, Va. -- Director of Athletics Cleive Adams has announced the hiring of Trey Turner as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Ferrum College. Turner will work with Head Coach James Johnson '93, who begins his first year at the helm of the Panther men's basketball program this fall.
 
Turner comes to Ferrum from Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he served as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach during the 2025-26 season. Forsyth Tech won the NJCAA Region X title in its first year of competition. Turner also spent the 2024-25 season as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Mooresville High School.
 
Turner will also serve as Men's Basketball Developmental Coach at Ferrum. The Panthers competed in the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Developmental Tournament last season.
 
Turner was a graduate assistant coach at Longwood University during the 2023-24 season. During his lone season with the Lancers, Longwood won the Big South Tournament and advanced to the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
 
"I am excited to have Trey join our basketball family," said Johnson. "He brings experience from every level: NCAA Division I, NJCAA, and high school. Trey is a proven winner at all those stops and will be a very versatile coach for our staff. An added plus will be him providing mentorship for our developmental program as well."
 
A 2023 graduate of Mercer University, Turner spent two years as a student manager with the Bears from 2021-23. He earned his bachelor's degree from Mercer in 2023 before going on to earn his master's degree from Longwood in 2025.
 
A native of Salina, Kansas, Turner is married to Amanda Turner. The couple resides in nearby Rocky Mount, Virginia.
