FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College has released a video on the making of the $5.5 million Hank Norton Athletic Center.  The video features many current Ferrum coaches, student-athletes and athletic administrators, as well as Hank Norton himself.

The video is just under seven and a half minutes long and depicts the importance of the facility to the new generation of student-athletes at Ferrum.  Many shots show the Norton Center looming as a backdrop, while others show teams as they prepare for competition with their respective seasons.

The facility will be named in honor of retired Head Football Coach and Director of Athletics Hank Norton, who led Ferrum to four national junior college football titles.  He led the Panther football program to four consecutive NCAA playoff appearances from 1987-90, including national semifinal finishes in 1988 and 1989.

As Director of Athletics, Norton guided the College's athletic program through the transition in 1985-86 from the junior college ranks to the NCAA Division III level.  Norton was also instrumental with Ferrum's application and eventual membership into the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, today known as the USA South Athletic Conference.

Norton earned numerous honors over his 34-year career as Ferrum's head football coach.  He is a member of four Halls of Fame and has been decorated as National Coach of the Year four times; National Junior College Coach of the Year in 1965, 1968 and 1974, as well as NCAA Division III Coach of the Year from Pigskin Preview Magazine in 1998.
