Derek Mitchell had 21 points and 21 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Ferrum College fell 71-64 to Christopher Newport University in USA South men's basketball action Feb. 16 on the road.

Earlier this week, Mitchell was named USA South Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, his fifth such honor this season.

Keith Crump, Ferrum's scoring leader thus far this season at 15.3 points per game, was held to six points this afternoon. Crump was perfect from the line, going 6-6, but was held scoreless from the floor at 0-9.
Thomas Whinnett had 25 points for the Captains to lead all scorers. Whinnett was 10-17 from the floor and 4-4 from the line for CNU (8-14, 4-5 USA South).
The loss drops Ferrum (12-11, 6-4) into second place in the league standings, a half game behind Methodist University, which is idle this weekend. The Panthers return to action Tuesday, Feb. 19, traveling to Winchester, Virginia, to take on USA South opponent Shenandoah University.
