BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Ferrum College football team earned a 21-14 win on the road this afternoon, defeating non-conference opponent Bridgewater College.

Bridgewater opened the game with a 61-yard kickoff return from Darrin McKenzie to spot its opening drive at the Ferrum 35 yard line. The Panther defense stopped the Eagles at the eight yard line, where Tyler Kelly put BC up 3-0 with a 25-yard field goal at 12:38.
Ferrum took a 7-3 lead on its second drive of the quarter on a Le'Bryan Patterson 13-yard run, capping a 9-play, 66-yard drive at 2:14 of the fist quarter.
Matt Dobson rushed for a four-yard score at 4:51 of the second quarter, followed by Patterson's second TD of the day, a 34-yard run with 45 seconds left until halftime.
Bridgewater drove seven plays in 39 seconds to set up and score on a 36-yard Kelly field goal as the clock expired and Ferrum took a 21-6 lead into the locker room.
Bridgewater's defense shut Ferrum out in the second half. The Eagles were able to score once more, a 65-yard pass from Hagan Driskell to Tyler Beiler. The two-point conversion made it 21-14 at 14:19 of the third quarter.
Kelly had another field goal attempt, a 29-yarder with 4:16 left in the game, but it was wide left. Bridgewater's last drive started with 44 seconds left in regulation but the Ferrum defense held and ran out the last 10 seconds for the win.
Patterson had 95 yards rushing and two scores on 13 carries.
Mike Vann had another 63 yards on 14 carries, while Dobson had 38 yards and a TD on nine carries. Dobson was 3-7 passing for 69 yards with no interceptions and no sacks. Defensively,
Brandon Washington had five solo tackles and an interception for the Panthers.
Darwin Nichols had the other pick.
McKenzie had 56 yards rushing on 11 carries. Driskell threw for 321 yards and a TD on 18-46 passing. He was intercepted twice and sacked three times. The Eagles' T.J. Montague had six solo tackles and six assists, including three tackles for loss and a sack.
Bridgewater (1-2) had 366 yards in total offense, 321 passing and 45 rushing. Ferrum had 312 yards in total offense, 69 passing and 243 rushing.
Ferrum (2-1) plays next on Saturday, Sept. 27, at home against Shenandoah University during family Weekend. The USA South Athletic Conference opener for both schools kicks off at 1 p.m.
