NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Derek Mitchell had 29 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Ferrum College men's basketball team to an 80-55 win over Elmira College in the opening round of the 2009 New York University Tip-Off Tournament.

Mitchell got good support from Jerrell Wade, who had 11 points and dished out seven assists.  Daryl Hart added 11 points for the Panthers.

David Nelson had 14 points for Elmira (2-1), including four three-point baskets.  Bobby DiPiazza had 11 points and a pair of assists for the Soaring Eagles.

Ferrum (1-2) will face Skidmore College in the championship game Sunday at 3 p.m.  Skidmore beat host NYU 80-75 this afternoon.  Elmira and NYU will play Sunday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game.
