KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Ferrum College softball team opened the 2009 season with a pair of non-conference wins in Florida, 7-4 over Augustana (IL) College and 7-2 over Neumann College Feb. 28 as part of the Panthers' spring break trip.

In the win over Augustana,
Brittany Barlow went 3-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Allyson Stevens pitched a complete 7-inning game to get the win. Stevens allowed nine hits and four earned runs, walked two and struck out one.
In the win over Neumann, Meghan Farrell and
Lauren Rizzo homered for Ferrum. Farrell went 4-4 with a double, a home run, two runs and two RBI. Rizzo went 2-4 wit a home run, three RBI and two runs.
Brittaney Shifflett got the win, allowing two hits and no earned runs over three innings, while walking one and fanning one.
Ferrum is back in action Sunday, March 1, against College of St. Benedict and Eastern Mennonite University. The non-conference games begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
