FERRUM, Va. -- Aldo Ramirez scored the game-winner in the 40th minute of play to lift Averett University to a 2-1 USA South men's soccer win over Ferrum College at Penn-Roediger Field.

The Cougars scored an own-goal less than five minutes into the match when Ferrum GK Chris Taylor stopped a shot, which then deflected off a Ferrum defender into the goal. Ferrum responded with Asa Fox's goal in the 28th minute of play off an assist from Aaron Gustine.

Taylor made four saves in net for Ferrum (4-10-2, 1-3-1 USA South), while Nate Barker made four saves for Averett (11-5-2, 4-1-1 USA South).

Ferrum returns to action Saturday, Oct. 30, against Methodist University.  The USA South match begins at 1 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
