FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team rolled to a 90-70 win over Lancaster Bible College this afternoon at home.  The non-conference win improved Ferrum to 9-0, the best-ever season start since the College became an NCAA Division III school in 1985-86. 

Ferrum's previous best start was in 1991-92 when the team opened at 8-0 before losing three straight and finishing 21-8.  The 1991-92 Panthers won the USA South Tournament (then the Dixie Conference) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Div. III Tournament.

Today's win also gives Ferrum a new record for longest winning streak.  The previous win streak of eight games was set in 1988-89 and matched in 1991-92.

Derek Mitchell had game-high totals with 23 points and 16 rebounds.  Mitchell added three assists, two steals and a pair of blocked shots.  Keith Crump added 15 points, seven assists and three steals.  Lamont King chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.

Kevin Keltner had 20 points for Lancaster Bible (4-6).  Kody Koser and Erich Graybill had 13 and 12 points, respectively for the Chargers.

Ferrum (9-0) returns to action Dec. 30 at Covenant College in Georgia.  Coach Bill Tharp's team then plays at LaGrange College Dec. 31 to close out the month.  Both non-conference games begin at 2 p.m.
