LaGRANGE, Ga. --
J.T. Edwards hit a basket with no time left to lift the Ferrum College men's basketball team to a 68-66 non-conference win over LaGrange College this afternoon on the road. The Panthers remain undefeated at 11-0 with the win.
Ferrum led by eight points in the first half before taking a 28-21 lead into the locker room. The Panthers took a 53-47 lead on a
Marcus Mayo three-point basket at the 11:21 mark of the second half, but LaGrange went on a 10-2 run to take a 57-55 lead with 7:46 left.
The lead would see-saw three more times, including the last time when Mayo hit a jumper with 1:25 left for a 65-64 Ferrum lead.
Derek Mitchell hit one of two free throws with 0:15 showing on the clock.
Steven Tuck looked to send the game into overtime when he converted two free throws to tie the game at 66-66 with three seconds left in regulation. The Panthers inbounded the ball immediately to
Lamont King. King connected with Edwards, who was streaking down the left side and drilled the game-winner at the buzzer.
Mitchell had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while
Keith Crump had 14 points and four rebounds. King had 12 points and seven, and
Daryl Hart added eight points and four rebounds.
Nic Whitfield led all scorers with 23 points on 8-13 shooting for LaGrange (1-11). Denzel Robinson had 12 points, while Blake Craft and Marcus Vaughn had 11 each. Vaughn also had 10 rebounds for the Panthers.
Ferrum (11-0) returns to action Monday, Jan. 3, at Eastern Mennonite University. The non-conference game tips off at 7 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
