FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College posted a pair of USA South softball wins over Averett University tonight at Franklin Community Bank Field, winning the opener 3-2 and the nightcap 13-9.
Meagan Farrell homered in the first game for Ferrum (23-11, 11-3 USA South), crushing a two-run shot in the second inning off the first pitch she saw. In two games, Farrell went 5-7 with a home run, two runs and three RBI.
Kaitlyn Culler struck out seven to earn the complete game win. Culler scattered eight hits and one earned run over seven innings and walking one of the 30 batters she faced.
Whitney Womack belted two homers in the second game, a two-run shot in the second inning and a three-run blast in the sixth. She closed the game at 3-4 with two runs and six RBI.
Emily Atkinson homered in the second game for Averett (6-19, 4-10 USA South). Prior to the action, the College held a Senior Day ceremony for graduating senior
Jasmine Parker.
Ferrum returns to action with a pair of USA South doubleheaders Friday and Saturday, April 9-10. Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team will play at North Carolina Wesleyan College Friday at 3 p.m., and at Christopher Newport University Saturday at 2 p.m.
