WINCHESTER, Va. --  Led by a pair of 78's from Freshmen Jacob Hardy and Scott Obenshain, the Ferrum College men's golf team carded a first round 316 to open in third place at the SU Invitational.  The first round was played at the 6,806-yard, par 72 Virginia National Golf Club in Winchester, Va.

Rounding out the team score for the Panthers were Brad Tribble and Ryan Throckmartin, firing a 79 and an 81, respectively.  Brian Bowles opened with an 85.

Playing individually for Ferrum was Brian Cox, registering a 74, and Erick Cox, recording an 81.  Also playing in the tournament was Chris Shaw,  but he did not finish.

Potomac State College leads the tournament after opening with a 303.  Randolph-Macon College fired a 314 and is in second place, two shots ahead of the Panthers.

The final round gets underway Sunday, September 12 and will be played at the 6,367-yard, par 72 Winchester Country Club.
