HARRISONBURG, Va. -- After opening the season at 11-0, the Ferrum College men's basketball team dropped its first game of the year, an 85-79 setback to nationally-ranked Eastern Mennonite University tonight on the road.
Five Panthers scored in double figures, led by
Derek Mitchell's 19-point, 14-rebound performance.
Marcus Mayo added 14 points,
Lamont King and
Keith Crump had 12 each, and
Nick English had 11 for the Panthers.
Eastern Mennonite, ranked #10 nationally by D3hoops.com, got 25 points from Todd Phillips. George Johnson had 21 points, Eli Crawford 13 and Orie Pancione 10 for the Royals (9-1).
Ferrum (11-1) returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 5, at at home against Averett University. The USA South doubleheader gets underway with the women's game at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed immediately by the Ferrum-Averett men.
