GREESBORO, N.C. -- Ferrum College suffered a 6-1 season-ending loss to Greensboro College this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 USA South Women's Soccer Tournament.

Kara Pegram started things off right for Ferrum with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute of play, but it would prove to be the only bright moment of the day for the Panthers.  Sarah Lang took a rebound off her own shot that hit the crossbar and put it past Ferrum goalkeeper Caitlyn Deaton to tie the game in the 43rd minute.

It was all Greensboro in the second half as the Pride shelled Ferrum with 11 second-half shots, including five goals.  Allison Gibson had two goals.  Deaton played all 90 minutes in net, as did Greensboro's Shireen Unvala.  Deaton made eight saves for Ferrum, while Unvala made five saves for the Pride (11-5-1).

Ferrum was the USA South Tournament's #5 seed, while Greensboro is the #4 seed.  The Pride win avenged a loss to Ferrum last month, in which the Panthers overcame an early deficit to post a 2-1 win in Greensboro.

Greensboro advances to the semifinals, where it will face the winner of the #1 Christopher Newport University vs. #8 North Carolina Wesleyan College quarterfinal, being played tonight at CNU.   The semifinals and finals of the men's and women's soccer tournaments will be played Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, at Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville.

Ferrum (9-8-2) posted its second consecutive winning season following last year's 11-7-1 campaign.  Coach Sandy Lagana's team will travel out of the country next August for a preseason training trip in Costa Rica.
