FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College men's basketball team defeated Christopher Newport University by a score of 95-83. The Panthers outscored their opponents 16-4 in overtime to round out a memorable senior night led by
Keith Crump and
Derek Mitchell.
Crump had a game-high 26 points, going 6-9 from the field. He also shot impeccably from the free-throw line, going 13-14. Crump also had eight assists on the night. Mitchell had a double-double with 23 points and a game-high of 22 rebounds. He went 8-15 from the field.
Sophomore
Lamont King rounded off the Panther's double digit scoring list, adding 19 points to the total by sinking 8-11 buckets from the field.
Junior
Marcus Mayo scored nine points on the night, while sophomore
J.T. Edwards had eight points to go with his game-high four blocked shots.
Mike Green and Conley Taylor led the Captains (15-8, 7-3 USA South) with 25 points each. Green shot 8-16 from the field and 9-14 from the line. Taylor dropped 10-21 from the field. Tra Benefield had 22 points on the night, and had a team-high 11 caroms.
Ferrum (21-3, 10-1 USA South) will travel to Rocky Mount, N.C. next Saturday, Feb. 19, for a USA South clash against North Carolina Wesleyan College. This meeting will pit the top two teams in the conference to decide the regular season title.
