FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped its fifth straight USA South game baseball this season, falling 3-1 to Averett University in the first of two conference games this weekend.

Travis Crump was the lone bright spot for Ferrum (10-11, 0-5 USA South), going 3-4 at the plate.  Paul Jaglowski, Caleb Dorton and Eddie McGrath had a base hit each.  Dorton absorbed the loss on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing seven hits and three earned runs.  He walked two and struck out four.

Adam Higgins and Jason Carter each had two base hits for th Cougars (15-12, 3-4 USA South).  Cody Moore scattered six hits and one earned run over eight innings to get the win.  He walked three and struck out three.  Chris Moyer earned his fourth save this season, pitching the ninth inning and allowing no hits or runs with a walk.  The two teams play again Sunday at 1 p.m.
