DANVILLE, Va. --
Kaitlyn Culler and
Hannah Shumaker each pitched complete games to lead Ferrum College to a pair of USA South softball wins over Averett University this afternoon on the road. The Panthers won the opener 7-4, then took the nightcap 12-4.
Karly Thompson went 3-3 with a double, a run and an RBI in the first game. Culler went 2-4 and drove in two runs. Culler allowed 10 hits and one earned run, while striking out three.
Shumaker went 3-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, and struck out five Cougar batters in game two.
Rachel Shumaker went 3-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Culler and
Shelbie Hall both had a pair of base hits.
Nicole Defilippo pitched 12 innings in two games to earn both losses for Averett (19-13, 8-6 USA South).
Ferrum (18-11, 8-6 USA South) is back in action Wednesday, April 6, at Lynchburg College. The non-conference doubleheader gets underway at 3 p.m. in Lynchburg, Virginia.
