Brittany Baker scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute to lift Ferrum College to a 2-1 non-conference women's soccer win over Emory & Henry College tonight at Penn-Roediger Field. The win stopped Emory & Henry's four-match streak to open the season.
LaQuinta Garrett opened scoring with a goal at the 35:02 mark, with
Amber Lynch assisting on the goal. The Panthers held the 1-0 heading into halftime. Erica Merriman scored for Emory & Henry early in the second half, at 47:28, with an assist from Ashlie Caldwell. Garrett then sent a cross from the right side and Baker put it past Emory & Henry goalkeeper Hayley Poland at 62:45.
Caitlyn Deaton made two saves for Ferrum, while Poland made four for the Wasps (4-1). Ferrum out-shot E&H 10-8, and both teams took two corner kicks.
Ferrum returns to action Friday, Sept. 16, at home against Trinity (DC) College. The non-conference match gets underway at 6 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
