FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College got 30 points from
Marcus Mayo and 20 points from
Daryl Hart en route to an 83-79 win over defending USA South Athletic Conference champ North Carolina Wesleyan College tonight at Swartz Gym.
Mayo added seven steals, four assists and four rebounds in the league win.
Lamont King added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Ferrum (10-8, 3-3 USA South).
Nick English had eight points for the Panthers. Ferrum closed with a 27-26 rebounding edge.
The Bishops (9-9, 3-3) had five players in double figures, led by Josh Morrison's 16 points. Julian Martin had 14, Justin Griffith had 13, Devin Nichols had 12 and Matt Dougherty had 10.
Prior to the game, Ferrum held a brief ceremony to honor Mayo, who scored his 1000th career point last week. Mayo drilled a three-point basket to open Ferrum's Jan. 18 game at Methodist University to reach the scoring plateau. Mayo's 30 points tonight moves him up to #11 spot on Ferrum's all-time scoring list with 1068 career points.
Ferrum (10-8, 3-3 USA South) returns to action Saturday, Jan. 28, at Greensboro College. The USA South game tips off at 4 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina.
