Brittany Baker scored for Ferrum College with 15 seconds remaining in the game to avoid the shutout in a 2-1 USA South Athletic Conference women's soccer loss at Averett University this afternoon on the road.
Megan Webb was credited with an assist on the goal.
Suvi Piipponen and Nadjua Sandau scored to keep the Cougars unbeaten in league play at 8-0.
Caitlyn Deaton played all 90 minutes in net and had 12 saves for the Panthers (6-9, 4-4 USA South). Malin Borjesson played 90 minutes in net for the Cougars (11-3, 8-0 USA South), making three saves.
Ferrum is back in action Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21, with a pair of USA South home games. Coach Leisl Narrow's team hosts Methodist University Saturday and North Carolina Wesleyan College Sunday. Both league games begin at noon at Penn-Roediger Field.
