FERRUM --
Megan Webb drilled a shot from 20 yards out with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation to give the Ferrum College women's soccer team a 2-1 USA South Athletic Conference win over Methodist University this afternoon at Penn-Roediger Field.
Prior to the game, Ferrum held a Senior Day ceremony to honor its three graduating seniors;
Maryann Castaneda,
Casey Johnson and
Kara Pegram. Johnson and Pegram closed out four-year careers with the Panthers, while Castaneda played two seasons.
Sean Edwards scored at the 9:00 mark to spot the Monarchs (6-11, 4-5 USA South) a 1-0 lead.
Annabelle Pivarnik then tallied a goal off a pass from
Maryann Castaneda at 11:59, and the two teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
Webb's goal came at the 80:07 mark, when she beat Methodist goalkeeper Taylor Ross with a ball into the upper left corner.
Antoinette Roland was credited with an assist on the goal. The Panthers played enough defense to preserve the win from there.
Caitlyn Deaton played all 90 minutes between the pipes, making seven saves. Methodist outshot Ferrum 10-9 and closed with a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Ferrum (7-9, 5-4 USA South) returns to action Sunday, Oct. 21, at home against North Carolina Wesleyan College. The USA South game is set to start at 12 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
