FERRUM, Va. --
Lamont King had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Ferrum College to a 65-50 non-conference men's basketball win over Washington and Lee University tonight at home.
Alek Ayer had 14 points and
Jamal Pullen had 10 points for the Panthers in the win.
Ferrum opened an eight-point lead with 5:38 to go in the first half on two King free throws, and eventually took a 30-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Panthers opened the second half with an 8-4 run, capped by Ayer's jumper at 16:44.
Ferrum's lead remained between eight and 10 points until
Shon Goode's basket at 17:11 and Pullen's bucket at 9:18 put the team out front 50-36. Javon McDonald connected on back-to-back three-point baskets for W&L to trim the lead to 50-42, but Pullen nailed another jumper to make the score 52-42 in favor of Ferrum with 7:14 left to play. The Panthers closed the game out with a 13-8 run.
Marshall Hamilton had five points and five assists to go with three steals for the Panthers. The Generals (3-3) got 19 points from McDonald, and 11 points and six rebounds from J.D. Ey.
Ferrum (4-2) returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 5, on the road against Randolph College. The non-conference game tips off at 7 p.m. in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Panthers then face Goucher College Saturday, Dec. 8, on the road. The non-conference game gets underway at 7:30 p.m. in in Baltimore, Maryland.
