Mayo, King Named All-Conference in Men's Basketball

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team and Ferrum College had two players represented on the team.  Senior Marcus Mayo earned a spot on the All-Conference first team, while junior Lamont King earned honorable mention.

Mayo averaged 16.8 points, 5.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Panthers this season.  He scored in double figures in all but two games this season, had 20 or more points seven times, including a season-high 30 points in a January 25 win at home over North Carolina Wesleyan College.  Mayo earned honorable mention a year ago.  A two-sport standout, Mayo was the USA South Football Offensive Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011.

King earns his first All-Conference honor this season after averaging 12.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.  He had four double-doubles and scored a season-high 22 points three times.

Senior Aarin Hill was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship.  Ferrum closed out the season at 13-13 overall and 6-6 in the USA South under seventh-year Head Coach Bill Tharp.  The Panthers graduate six players in May.

Christopher Newport University swept the major honors as Conley Taylor, Mike Cherry and John Krikorian earned Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year, respectively.  The Captains won the regular season title and are the #1 seed in the 2012 USA South Tournament.
