Matt Reynolds and
Paul Jaglowski both singled in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in runs and help Ferrum College post a 5-4 non-conference baseball win over #22 Bridgewater College tonight at Panther Field.
The Panthers trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
Casey Naff opened the frame by reaching on an error by the third baseman.
Jason Parker, pinch-running for Naff, advanced to second on
Teddy Turner's sacrifice bunt.
Peter Byron lined out to left field, and Ferrum was down to its last out.
Taryn Hayden walked, then
Matt Reynolds ripped a single to left field, scoring Parker and tying the game at 4-4, and moving Hayden to second. Jaglowski then singled to left field to allow Hayden to score the game-winning run.
Jaglowski and
Teddy Turner each had three base hits for the Panthers. Alex Nuttycombe and Bryan Sanderson both had two base hits for Bridgewater (18-8). The win was Ferrum's second this season over the Eagles, including a 2-1 victory in 11 innings Feb. 14 at Bridgewater.
The win was the second this season for Ferrum over a ranked team. Coach Darren Hodges' team beat #4 Christopher Newport University March 18 at home.
Ferrum (19-8) returns to action Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April 1, at Methodist University. The USA South games get underway at 1:00 p.m. both days.
