ROANOKE, Va. -- Ferrum College's women's soccer team needed overtime to get past Hollins University, pulling out a 4-3 non-conference win this afternoon on the road. Senior
Kara Pegram scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers in the 95th minute of play.
Pegram had a pair of goals this afternoon, while junior
Brittany Baker and freshman
Morgan Funck had one each. Morgan Wood gave Hollins a 1-0 lead with a goal in the sixth minute of play. Pegram answered for the Panthers, scoring the first of her two goals in the 11th minute. Baker notched her goal a minute later to put Ferrum on top 2-1.
Becca Logan tied the game in the 26th minute and two teams went into the locker room at 2-2. Funck struck for the Panthers at 47:02 but Hollins' Dani Franklin sent the game into overtime with a goal in the 71st minute. Freshman
Antoinette Roland was credited with assists on Baker and Funck's goals.
Caitlyn Deaton played all 95 minutes in net, making 10 saves for the Panthers (1-1). Brandi Chesne played all 95 minutes for Hollins (0-1), making 15 saves.
Ferrum has opened the season with back-to-back overtime games, including a 3-2 setback to Randolph College Aug. 31 on the road. Coach Liesl Narrow's team will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Emory & Henry College.
