Ferrum Women Top Southern Virginia 3-2

Box Score

FERRUM -- Kara Pegram scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in the 76th minute of play to lift Ferrum College to a 3-2 non-conference women's soccer victory over Southern Virginia University tonight at Penn-Roediger Field.

Following a scoreless first half, Brittany Baker put the Panthers on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 70th minute of play.  Pegram scored the first of her two goals 13 second later to put Ferrum on top 2-0.  Southern Virginia answered right away when Lora Palmer scored in the 73rd minute.

Pegram then notched her second goal off a pass from Monica Morris to extend Ferrum's lead to 3-1 with less than 15 minutes left to play.  Southern Virginia's Noelle Misewicz cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal in the 83rd minute but Ferrum's defense preserved the win from there.

The Knights (3-5) out-shot Ferrum 22-9 and closed with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Caitlyn Deaton played all 90 minutes in net for the Panthers, making nine saves.  Autumn Bronson went the distance for SVU, making six stops.

Ferrum (4-5) will play a pair of home USA South Athletic Conference games Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30.  Coach Liesl Narrow's team faces William Peace College Saturday at 2 p.m., and Meredith College Sunday at 2 p.m.
