FERRUM, Va. -- Alex Long-Armstrong scored a pair of goals to help Ferrum College to a 3-1 USA South Athletic Conference men's soccer win over Averett University tonight at Penn-Roediger Field.
Armstrong scored his first goal with 51 seconds left in the first half to spot the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the break.
Asa Fox earned an assist on the goal.
Benjy Slator scored for the Cougars (6-7-1, 3-3 USA South) at 47:23, only to have Ferrum's Abass Osman come back and score an unassisted goal at 50:16.
Long-Armstrong scored his second goal in the 74th minute of play off a pass from
Micah Abel. Averett out-shot Ferrum 17-15 and closed with a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Justin Robinson played all 90 minutes in net for Ferrum and made four saves, while Martin Erenstedt did the same for Averett with five stops. Ferrum (11-5, 4-2 USA South) returns to action Sunday, Oct. 20, at home against Greensboro College. The USA South game is slated to start at 2:00 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
